Who is Brittany Evans?
Brittany is a graduate of Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colo., and earned a bachelor's degree in journalism and technical communication with a news/editorial concentration. She graduated as a journalism and technical communication Honors scholar and with a Latin distinction of Cum Laude. Since May of 2012, Brittany has been the Web Services Manager for the Division of Athletics & Recreation at the University of Denver. Her primary responsibilities include:
From June of 2011 until December 2012, Brittany worked as a public relations assistant for Lynn Plage Communications. She drafted press releases and fact sheets, and she assisted in social media campaigns for LPC's clients--which includes elite athletes in figure skating, gymnastics and fencing.
From February 2011 until April 2011, Brittany was contracted under IMG and Smucker's Stars on Ice as a production assistant (specifically public relations and promotions). She traveled with the nationwide tour, coordinated media requests (both on-site and via telephone), ran the tour's fan club meet and greet sessions at each show, and produced content for the tour's website and social media accounts (both text and photo/video content). Her photos and videos will be used for future tour promotions.
In May 2010, she interned at the Denver stop for the Smucker’s Stars on Ice tour and continued the internship at Disson Skating's Improv-Ice show in Loveland, Colo. As part of the internship, she interviewed cast members, wrote stories about the cast and events, and took photos for future promotion.
From July 2009 until December 2010, Brittany interned at “Colorado Sports Insider,” a Denver-based sports magazine, where she was the magazine’s Senior Preps Writer; her stories and photos appeared in the print publication, digital publication and website, some of which are accessible from this website.
In the spring of 2010, she completed an Honors thesis titled “Bloggers: How they fit in sports journalism,” during which she researched and interviewed print, broadcast and student journalists; sports bloggers; and media consumers in Colorado to determine whether or not blogging has been embraced as a form of legitimate journalism. Her 60+ page informational thesis concluded that while there is still a distinction between traditional journalism and blogging/citizen journalism in sports, the two industries are beginning to work together.
Growing up, Brittany was involved in several sports, starting with soccer for three years while in elementary school. After enrolling in beginning gymnastics classes, she quit soccer to become a competitive gymnast. She competed through the Colorado Association of Recreation and Athletics (CARA) gymnastics program from 1999 until 2004, and she was an all-around varsity gymnast for her high school. Her senior year of high school, she was elected team captain. At Colorado State University, she was a regular member of the CSU Gymnastics Club. Before starting high school, she also took tennis lessons for a couple months. While she was never part of an organized team, she considers herself a recreational tennis player.
Brittany has embraced a love for sports photography and owns a Nikon D300s camera with a f/2.8 80-200 telephoto zoom lens, f/4.5-5.6 70-300mm telephoto zoom lens, f/3.5-5.5 18-55mm wide-angle lens and monopod.
